geek

...since my blog is exponentially becoming boring these days, positively correlating trend to my REAL LIFE, I bought some book to pass time.

Oxford handbook of MEDICAL SCIENCES.

its an awesome book. Biology students would appreciate it.
some cool stuff i learnt from this book;

why skin wrinkles after being submerged in water for too long

the uppermost layer of our skin, called Stratum corneum is actually formed from dead keratinous cells, which attains its waterproof effect by having a layer of glycophospholipids. (hint hint cell membrane constituents)

because these glue-like glycophospholipids (more easily called sebum) can be washed away with water, the glue which keeps our skin tightly sheltered from water, is absent after a while in water. hence the skin will expand due to our skin actually sucking up water.

see how boring is my life? i love being boring though
