I realise, i usually don't read many books.
so i bought a book last week or so.
I've just finished reading Kafka on the shore, its 21st of november, 12:10.
Amani said she hates the book,
which was quite discouraging but i found her honesty twice as pleasant as the fact that i might have bought the wrong book.
but actually i loved the book. it made me think, at least.
Murakami Haruki writes like a poet. convoluted, metaphorical and indirect,
however he leaves hints for the reader so that we can at least grasp some message out of it.
these hints could be the things they discuss in the novel, how they themselves
get confused as we are, and try to find the nature (and not "way out") of their labyrinth.
all the while i was reading, i kept on translating the character's words in my head
(since its set in japan, and simply because i can)
i think that made all the difference. the characters seem very alive in a strange sense,
because none of them are ordinary characters. they are all freaks of nature.
the strange reality he creates in all of his writing are probably due to his ways of description.
it gives an object a whole new meaning by linking it to something that we would never connect it to.
this makes everything quite a fresh breeze into one's neurones.
i know what i should do,
im passing this book to dexter, and im going to borrow something from him in return.
(yes, dexter. and yes, im going to "beat you up" if you don't have any books to lend me)
update: Dexter gave me (a very small book, i think he was being very considerate and kind, knowing that I'm Japanese and English-impaired) "politically correct bedtime stories". as a return.
he said it was "hilarious".
it says "X'mas 94, dearest Simon, just the book for you. lots of love. maria"
on the back of the cover.
hmm.
this dude, Simon.
he sold his X'mas present huh.
well i can see that Simon didn't consider maria his type.
update:
it was not Maria. it was Mina.
and Simon and Mina was Dexter's parents.
i think ill have to take extra care of the book now.

The name is Mina, not Maria. They're Dexter's parents :P
And yes, they're still married :P
holy shit.
Dexter lent me a book with THAT MUCH sentimental value!?
why dexter why
Because I like to guilt you, now keep that book well, if not they'll be in pain at it's loss.
But seriously, it's really not that sentimental.
dexter.
i know, its one of your plans to "drive me insane" using one of my scarcely remaining human emotions.
even your "oh its not that big of a deal" comment is actually, a scheme to dig deeper into my guilt.
meh.
yeah ill keep it well. and i think you took on some sense of humour from your parents.
I KNOW THAT BOOK! but yes, i wonder what his parents would say if they read what you said about them...... maria huh?
Haha. My sister bought a book used, online, about a year ago: "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. On the insert was a note written lovingly from a wife to her husband. My sister and I pondered for a moment about their current relationship. It's also a pretty odd book, I think, for a wife to give to her husband. Especially given the little prince's outlook and his outcome. Actually...you might identify with the little prince, Tats. Hahaha.
