there is this term in neurology (brain-medicine), called Anosognosia - it is when a person has a disregard for its inability.
for e.g. this dude can't move his left hand. most likely he'll know that his arm won't move, and try and live with it.
however, sometimes, people have a disability, just like the above case - plus, they will have anosognosia - it may happen in nerve damage in the brain. so this fella would have a non-functioning hand, but he would -pretend- that he doesn't have a disability. not quite pretend, because he would really believe he doesn't have a disability.
therefore, he would be like "huh, what do you mean, it must be difficult being able to use only one hand".
so i was thinking to myself i hope i don't have anosognosia in terms of emotional, social and mental terms.
i would be mentally / emotionally / socially retarded, but i have a complete disregard for my faults.
but it got me thinking further - are we really aware of what we can and cannot do? for e.g. do we know what is a socially favourable decision? do we know what is the correct feelings to have when things happen?
and it got me thinking again that what IS the "correct" way of things - aren't they just conditioned things which just SEEMS definitely but actually a collected bunch of subjective qualities that was tought to us when we were kids, or through experience?
so how can we ever behave in such a way that we're sure that we're doing the right thing, feeling the correct way and etc.
I don't.
I don't know what is wrong and what is right in a true sense, and neither do i know when i screw up (or everyone else is screwing up except me)
so i guess, in that way I DO have anosognosia, but it is good- it enables me to go forth and do things without stopping to think "is it really okay?" so i guess anosognosia is more of a function rather than a pathology of the mind.
hence it got me thinking that maybe a lot of other things that are considered a disease is actually a function, like being a schizophrenic and having bipolar personalities.
i always used to think people in mental institutes may be the sane ones - but didn't quite know how to explain. i think the above explanation basically sums up how i feel.

You don't believe in God. I do believe in an absolute Lord, and my actions are conditioned. However, you are not completely beyond hope, because you still question yourself. If you had complete disregard, you would never question.
hmm. i don't "not believe" in god. its like, I won't be so surprised if there was one. or two, or billions of them. it is simply beyond my knowledge... and i am afraid committing to one religion would offend the others (we tend to do that, because we become insecure)
you see, what i think is, still, i can't really say what is right / wrong, thinking about it still means something.
That's the thing, though.
I do believe in One, and I'm not at all caring about the others. I believe that He judges what is right and what is wrong, and I apply His judgments to my life. Of course, all this, at the root, is based on faith, seeing that He is invisible, and the words of His that I have were written by men. So I have absolute knowledge based on what I cannot see. And part of that knowledge is the understanding that those that are not for Him are against Him--one that does not believe and obey Him is His enemy. If God (or gods) is, if there be such a thing morally and physically superior to us, it goes to reason that you've already offended at least one of them. :)
The question of right and wrong is not human, it's divine. In Eden, the Lord did not create man with the knowledge of good and evil; it was not until man sinned and ate of the fruit of the tree of good and evil that he became knowledgeable in that aspect. Man's natal thought was to serve himself. If there is no one higher than you (though, for a time, you my have a superior, such as a parent or boss, to which you submit just enough to procure a favorable outcome), then you make up for yourself what is right and wrong. If you doubt your superiority, then you are reaching out for something higher.
i respect that.
but its hard for me to imagine a god that is so selfish that he regard anyone who doesn't believe in him as his enemy.
how did god create human that is so flawed, - that his action will always be selfish (including the part where he must believe in the God to SAVE THEMSELVES) and never actually pure?
they say we're born with sin and the only way to cleanse our sin is to believe in Him but then, it sounds epitome of selfish for me to just save myself.
it comforts me, though, to think of me going to hell so that one extra person can go to heaven. i still cannot believe in one god because i don't want to just save myself. you'll prolly go to heaven, Joshua. :) but you gotta admit not everyone can be saved.
what is right/wrong perhaps may be a difficult question which i would never solve unless i commit to a religion, but i think an answer already given is not something that is really heartfelt. people still need to think - and think - and think.
If God is perfect, and He created all things, then how can anything He asks be up for judgment? If He is imperfect, then how can He be God?
it sounds epitome of selfish for me to just save myself
It's not about saving yourself. It's about admitting that you can't save yourself. The hand has already been stretched out toward you. The decision is either to take that hand or to continue to struggle.
you'll prolly go to heaven, Joshua
I'd like to see you there, too, Tatsuki. :)
you gotta admit not everyone can be saved.
Not everyone will be saved; that is true.
people still need to think - and think - and think.
There is no end to thinking; it is an ancient trap. At some point, thinking has to be given up on because logic cannot account for eternity.
i don't really get you at the first paragraph... if god is perfect, why did he let Adam make the mistake of eating the apple of knowledge (and why did the snake even have to be there?)
There is no end to thinking; it is an ancient trap. At some point, thinking has to be given up on because logic cannot account for eternity.
haha. an ancient trap! i like that. but how about people who study philosophy? are all their thinking futile? i think its too early for me to stop thinking though, and i do agree that logic cannot account for eternity. but my life has just started, and i'd like to roll around in futile attempts just a little more... and hopefully making some people happy on the way.
That's just it. If God is perfect, then His actions are perfect. Our lack of understanding does not disqualify Him; because our understanding is imperfect, our judgment is imperfect. The arrow does not know what the archer is aiming at.
1 Corinthians 3:19-20 AMP
"For this world's wisdom is foolishness (absurdity and stupidity) with God, for it is written, He lays hold of the wise in their [own] craftiness; and again, The Lord knows the thoughts and reasonings of the [humanly] wise and recognizes how futile they are."
I'm not forcing you into anything, my friend. I'm simply laying out my argument as logically as I can in the hope that you may one day believe. :)
