today, i've had a sort of a practical learning session with a few of my friends and a senior lecturer. (who happens to be my mentor)
he told me about this new faculty lecturer who is JAPANESE. so i was like, "oh i think i saw him in the cafeteria".
and then he said "how do you know him?", to which i replied "i don't."
"that doesn't make sense?" said the lecturer (he doesn't like people saying things without "science" behind it.
"It does. i can distinguish between a japanese and other asian people." said I. simply because i think i can.
(note, my mentor is an African)

"Japanese people have a specific aura of presence. i can tell. if i saw them walking, almost certainly i can detect the difference."
"really? who said? do they have a specific *Gait*? please explain".
(now, usually, most students will just whimper in the corner because this lecturer is known to be fierce and intense in his teaching method ("I WILL KILL YOU IF YOU GET THIS WRONG") and almost everyone is petrified of him, but i know that he is not illogical, nor is he unreasonable.

it is in our culture as we have a history of living in a highly densely populated area. we plan our movements subconsciously, and take extra care not to bump into each other. in the olden days, Samurai took care not to walk on the right hand when passing by someone, because the sword is worn on the left. if the swords of 2 passing people touch, it will lead into a fight, which may end up in one of them, or both of them, dead. so we have a specific code-of-behavior not to invade each other's social distance. it is a risk-management of sorts."
(this is, unlike most of the things i say, TRUE)

I wrote this blog-post because i was actually pleased with myself that i can come up with some substantial evidence that i am not talking rubbish, and this may strike new to my fellow readers. a little piece of Japanese culture.

Hahahaha. That's hilarious. Not necessarily what you said, but what thought was provoked. You see, I tend to do just the opposite--especially when I'm doing something. My "elbow room" is something like 20 feet in diameter. During my high school graduation ceremony, they set up folding metal chairs out on the football field/track. Our class had an odd number of graduate-ers, but an even number of chairs. After arranging us alphabetically, and given the merit of my surname (Wright), I was last, leaving a single empty chair next to me. Did I leave the chair empty? No. I straddled both of them through the whole ceremony. That's what I found was humorous in response to your insight. However, I believe it's more myself than my upbringing.
Hahaha. Even if you do talk crap, Tatsuki, I enjoy reading it. :)

Also, could you maybe change that stupid 'Pia wants to quit being a pothead' link? I NEVER WAS A POTHEAD, TATSUKI. I have never done drugs in my life! And I hated it when people called me that stupid nickname, for reasons that you probably already know. Please change it, I don't want reminders :( Thank you.

Also, Dr. FIA? Is that his real name or some kind of acronym? If it's his real name then oooh he has a similar-sounding name to mine!

That's actually rather interesting. I always noted it in my Japanese friends but I never really thought about it like that.
And to answer to FIA like that is commendable, since he does seem to intimidate at times.
You learn something new everyday. :)

I feel that Dr.FIA is actually a very frank person. its just that he likes to use some tools for teaching, like fear. i got used to him since he's my mentor, so i can talk to him without quite shaking.
i do respect him very much though. he's a great teacher.
